As we are always looking for the best ways to make instruction meaningful, KENNEDY staff created a great system to improve learning. By using journals on a daily basis teachers and students have an opportunity to reflect on their learning and show growth over time. Journals allow students to write about the content just learned, organize ideas and at the end of the year is a wonderful book to take home! An additional benefit to using the journals is that teachers can use this wealth of information to make important decisions about instruction. Each entry can be used as an assessment and the data collected can guide their planning efforts.

During meetings teachers share their journals every week, talk about different ways to improve and plan for the upcoming weeks. Why don’t you ask your child about his/her latest entry on his/her journal? What did you write about? Did you include illustrations? What new vocabulary did you learn? Did you like the concepts introduced?

Having meaningful talks about their daily learning make students more aware of the importance of each subject at school. Let’s get started!
